The Urbs is the registred company of LUTHeRIE URBaINE.
It consists of five beaters - percussionnists, coming
from various musical universes: musical theatre, jazz,
rock'n'roll, contemporary music, arts of the street…
Jean-Louis Mechali
Artistic director of LUTHeRIE URBaINE and composer for Urbs'compagny. Jazz beater, percussionnist of old and contemporary music, composer for the theatre, dance, the cinema, the radio (Price Italia of European Union of Radio 96) and prize winner of 2 great disc prizes and 2 great awards of Academy Charles Cros. Producer of 2 collections for INA and Le Chant du Monde, he is a also professor with the music academy of Bagnolet, artistic coordinator of the departmental mission Jazz in Seine Saint Denis and Musical Conseiller of the House of the Metal-workers on behalf of the city of Paris.

This organization is dedicated to creation and musical
research, created on initiative of JL Mechali, LUTHeRIE
URBaINE consist today of a dozen artists and technicians
from the spectacle, who work specific musical projects…
INTERNATIONAL PROJECT:
"THE URBS & AFRICA" productions 2002/2004 with the support of the AFAA and the General Council 93: Under consideration over several years, this project of artistic exchanges are worked out in connection and around musical creations written by JL Mechali for instruments designed and produced starting from materials and objects recovered "in situ". Work is carried out in parallel and respectively in the cities of Seine Saint Denis and in Africa throughout one season, through cycles of worksops established in each country with musicians experienced or not, adults or children. It gives place to musical programmes: rounds, residences, enregistrements, etc…
